Special Services

The following is meant as a general description of the types of special services performed at Trinity Presbyterian Church.  For specific services, please monitor the announcements on the home page, bulletins or the sign in front of the church.

Ash Wednesday Worship Service

This service of reverence and reflection begins our observance of the Lenten Season – our 40 days of weekly devotion and preparation for Easter. Come join in this very moving time of resting in the presence of God, symbolically removing/releasing whatever separates you from God. We will explore together what it means to observe a holy Lent and to prepare ourselves for the joy of Easter. The service will include the sacrament of Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes for those wishing to receive them. We often precede this service with a special meal in Fellowship Hall.

Tenebrae Worship Service

Our service of Tenebrae, or “shadows”, is a tradition used in the last days of Holy Week (the Friday before Easter) to impress upon the hearts of believers the awful consequences of sin and the magnitude of the Savior’s sacrifice.

The most significant feature of this service is the gradual extinguishing of the lights and the candles in the room and on the communion table.  The candles represent the disciples and other followers of Christ as they gradually took flight.  The ensuing darkness symbolizes the growing resentment and hatred of the world against the Savior.

This service is designed not to make you feel uncomfortable but to give you the opportunity to pause and remember what Christ endured for you.  In the silence let the story speak to you, and allow yourself to be brought to the God of grace through it.

10:00 am. – Traditional Worship Service in the Sanctuary

This “come as you are” Christmas morning service helps give our hearts to God as we give to each other the love of Christmas.

Spend your Christmas morning giving to others

Right after worship share the gift of Christmas with the patients of Arlington Hospital by delivering poinsettias and singing Christmas Carols.  Truly a gift-giving time of laughter, joy, meaning and purpose.
